Danny, Listening Dog
Earlier this year, Ann was asked if she would draw a portrait of a greyhound called Danny. Danny is a 'Listening Dog' who works with his owner, Tony Nevett, to help children with their reading, as part of the work of Reading Education Assistance Dogs (READ). This is a non-profit organisation whose aim is to improve the literacy skills of children. So-called 'listening dogs' are said to help build confidence in children and overcome their fear of reading aloud. The scheme originated in the USA.

In June, Danny and Tony went to London, to the headquarters of the Greyhound Board of Great Britain where Danny's portrait (donated by Ann to READ) is now hung. (Photograph courtesy of GBGB)
